Our Story

Inspired by studies showing the benefits of physical fitness in decreasing cancer recurrence, the Survivor Rowing Club aims to enhance physical and psychosocial wellness for breast cancer survivors. We provide comradery and friendship through rowing, a low-impact sport accessible at any age and fitness level. Recognizing the challenges of breast cancer treatment, we also offer a walking subgroup, Walk of Water, to keep women active during recovery.

Founded in 2024 as Reaux Dat with support from Ochsner Health, we've partnered with organizations like Ergofit, Tulane Rowing, and the New Orleans Rowing Club. Our most crucial partner is the Survivor Rowing Network, established in 2023 to support survivor rowing clubs worldwide.

With generous donor support, we plan to expand access to our program, purchasing boats, equipment, and leasing facilities. Our team of eight women will participate in the Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) Survivor Row in October 2025, promoting exercise for cancer survivors. Future plans include a research study on the program's impact on participants' physical and mental well-being.
